I created an Excel spreadsheet that I call “New Site Steps Check List” in which I print out and check off items I do for a new client. I put in all their information and the versions of plugins and themes I add to their WordPress site. This goes into their folder. You can download my check list and make it your own by clicking the above link. However the other day I was looking at my whiteboard calendar planner I have to the left of my desk and thought – I really don’t use this any more for a calendar, how can I use this?
Light Bulb Idea!
I am currently working on seven new WordPress builds and “sometimes” I get a little forgetful when I need to recall where I am on whose project – what I’ve completed and what I need to complete. It gets very tiresome to pull out everyone’s folders to check their check list so I decided to consolidate the “list” and put on my whiteboard. I added the tasks headers to check off when tasks are completed. I’ve added the following task headers: Keyword Research, Domain & Hosting, Install WP Database & Install WordPress, Install iThemes Builder and Child Theme, Install Plugins, Header, Layout, Style Manager, Footer, Create Pages, Images, Videos, Content, Social Media, Favicon, Review, Tweak, and Release. I have two blank spaces left so if you think of what I’m missing please leave it in the comments below.
Then on the far left I added the clients name. Now I can easily and quickly look over and see what stage I’m at on each client’s site and quickly check off tasks as completed.
